SPACEWALKER is a bespoke project created in 2019 by artist Christine Corday in collaboration with Barrett Barrera Projects and co-designed by Todd Thomas.

SPACEWALKER is designed to be the timeless uniform for the moment we first realized our world is space and space is our world. No privileged location. No privileged gender. SPACEWALKER is the human uniform.

Locations in space are defined by temperature and pressure.

EARTH AVG TEMP / DEGREES KELVIN 289K

EARTH AVG PRESSURE / PASCAL 14.7p

SPACEWALKER uniforms the human body for conditions experienced at earth's surface and other locations in space.

Artists

Christine Corday
Christine Corday is an artist whose materials-based practice explores perception, elemental forces, and the changing human scale of experience. Working with temperature, material states, metals, and artist-led collaborations with scientists and science organizations, Corday creates works that invite heightened sensory awareness and attention to touch, memory, and material transformation.

Her solo exhibitions include Protoist Series: Selected Forms at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, UNE on the High Line in New York, and Relative Points at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis. Her works range from large-scale public commissions, including the 25,000-pound GENESES in San Francisco, to intimate objects measured in grams. Following an astrophysics internship at NASA/SETI, Corday founded Foundation Civilization for projects exploring the intersections of art and science. Her work has been supported by the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Robert Lehman Foundation, and the Lannan Foundation.
